New "Auditor Supervision" specialist unit

03.12.25 FMA
The Executive Board of the FMA has decided to set up the "Auditor Oversight" unit. The new unit will be established on January 1, 2026 and will play a central role in quality assurance in the area of auditing. It will be headed by Markus Meier, Head of the Banking Division and member of the FMA Executive Board.

The specialist unit is based on the Auditors Act (WPA) and the relevant special legislation and aims to ensure a trustworthy supervisory regime and high-quality audit services through risk-based supervision. In this way, the specialist unit actively contributes to the objectives set out in Art. 4 FMAG, in particular client and investor protection.

The unit also acts as a central point of contact for issues relating to auditor supervision and represents the FMA in national and international bodies. It works closely with the existing supervisory divisions and ensures the exchange of information.
